Among our interests is the study of atomic structural changes that accompany variation in composition, temperature, and pressure. These studies impart the materials science, environmental science, and mineral phsics communities whose intersts have been converging over the past years. In order to determine atomic level information under the "operation conditions" of the earth the group travels to national and interanational X-ray synchrotron and neutron sources and develops environmental cells for work at these facilities. Stony Brook is only 20 minutes from the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) where much of this is carried out.
